Beale Street Music Fest!

The lineup for this year's Beale Street Music Fest is out--and it's freaking great.

Here's a PDF look at the lineup.

Highlights:

Friday--kind of weak, unless you're 15, in which case I would welcome you to check out any of the crap on the Sprite/NBA stage (American Hi-Fi, Bowling for Soup, Switchfoot); also note the unique mix of talent as Trey Anastasio (from Phish--if you like weed and 25-hour guitar riffs, you'll love him) follows Yo Gotti (local rapper that, for lack of a better term, sucks)

Saturday--Much better. For starters, you've got a good local rapper in Al Kapone, plus Todd Snider, followed by KC & the Sunshine Band (they're still around?), and then Nelly. All on one stage. Other talent on Saturday include Breaking Point (decent), Three Days Grace (pretty good), TESLA (hell yeah!), Los Lonely Boys, and "The Killer" (if by killer you mean cousin-marrying hillbilly) Jerry Lee Lewis

Sunday--Will Askew seems to think this might be the best day in the history of Music Fest. I won't go that far, but it's damn good--Billy Idol, the Black Crowes (my first concert ever was a Black Crowes show at the Mud Island Amphitheatre), Ike Turner (watch out, Tina!), Chevelle, Robert Randolph, the Roots, War, Elvis Costello. I'm all over that.

Nice job, Memphis in May. Way to bring the fastball with this lineup.
